Here at I Greppi we are incredibly proud of our long-standing relationship with the University of California, Davis. Each year, UCD sends one of their brightest talents to us to further their education with hands on experience while at the same time bringing the latest technology, ideas and techniques from the Mondavi Institute of Wine.

One of the many responsibilities of the internship is to continue our Merlot Project.
Beginning in 2018 and under the supervision of Dr Ron Runnebaum, associate Professor at UCD a small project with a handful of Bolgheri producers had
developed into a transatlantic scientific project containing wineries from both Bolgheri and Napa. Using juice samples from two small areas we are aiming to map the DNA of a grape and use it to discover what makes a particular grape so unique.
Using this knowledge through chemical analysis to show the impact of vine age, soil
type, vineyard techniques grape selection and pruning.
